The High Court in Juba has overturned a death sentence handed down to 45-year-old man who was jailed for murder. The man had been on death row for the past nine years for killing his wife in April 2010, while under the influence of alcohol.
His release was secured after the family of his deceased wife agreed on a blood compensation of 120 goats and 39 head of cattle.
The release was facilitated by the Justice and Human rights Observatory that provided free legal services. The project’s Executive Director, Godfrey Victor Bulla says they petitioned the court on behalf of the suspect.
