Celebrating 400 years of Manneken Pis

Nov 04, 2019, 07:06 PM

The Manneken-Pis statue is 400 years old this year and the city is organizing a full bouquet of events to celebrate the birthday.
In 1619 the Brussels city government ordered a new Manneken-Pis statue to replace the existing one. The city commissioned the new statue from one of the most prominent sculptors at that time, Jérôme Duquesnoy, which shows the importance the statue already had. We hear from Delphine Houba, Alderwoman for Culture, Tourism and Major Events, Ans Persoons, Alderwoman for  Urbanism, Public Spaces and Dutch language Education, and Roel Jacobs, Historian specialized in the history of Brussels about the celebrations planned.
Music: Manneken Pis by Maurice Chevalier (1949)
