The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General to South Sudan is urging the parties to the revitalized peace agreement to stick to the peace process. David Shearer says the parties should continue to focus on respecting the ceasefire and reaching compromises on the outstanding issues through political negotiation, regardless of the November 12th deadline to form a unity government. Mr. Shearer says there is no Plan B for the peace process.
The Special Representative was speaking at the opening of a workshop to review and analyze the peace agreement. The two-day forum was organized by the Center for Strategic and Policy Studies think-tank, in collaboration with the UN Mission in South Sudan.
Speaking at the same forum, Presidential Special Envoy, Barnaba Marial Benjamin reminded the parties of their responsibility to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of the country’s people.
The Chairperson of South Sudan Opposition Alliance, Josephina Lagu called for the timely formation of Revitalized-Transitional Government of National Unity.
