U.S. Ambassador: ‘Door still open’ for South Sudan government

 

The United States Ambassador to South Sudan says the country’s people should rest assured that the United States will continue to have their interests at heart. 

 

Ambassador Thomas Hushek makes the comments just days after his government said it would be ‘reviewing’ its relations with the South Sudan government following a decision to extend the Pre-Transitional period by 100 days.  

 

Ambassador Hushek says his government was ‘disappointed’ by the extension and described it as a ‘set back’ to the peace process. 

 

Speaking on the Radio Miraya Nationwide program a few minutes ago, the Ambassador said the door ‘remains open’ for discussions with the government. 

 

The Ambassador also called for the ‘opening up’ of political space to push the peace process forward.
