Men are being encouraged to take the lead, in combating sexual and gender-based violence.
Speaking on the Radio Miraya Breakfast show, the Executive Director of the ‘Mind and Souls Institute’ Deng Jacob Dee said men as heads of households should use their influence to protect women against harm and not perpetrate acts of violence and abuse.
He urges the community to also play a part in guarding against gender-based violence
“Everybody is affected by gender based violence either a man, woman child or whatever human being so we look at involvement of men in this activism because men have power and if they misuse their power, he said.
His comments come in the run-up to the start of the 16 Days of Activism campaign against Gender-Based Violence an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
