Inside Kurama-dera Temple, Kyoto

Mar 05, 2020, 03:42 PM

On the Kurama Kibune trail early on a Sunday morning, a hiking path with many Shinto shrines leading up to a temple. Praying at the shrines involves throwing a coin into the box for offerings, bow, sometimes ring a bell that's above the box, then clap your hands before commencing prayer. Here you can hear the clapping, coins being offered, the bell being rung, echoing bird calls in the forest and the same happening at a distance from another shrine nearby.
