Infill

Joan Jonas exhibition sounds reimagined by Logan Austeja Daniel.

"Infill is a city planning practice to build within the available spaces, unused lots, or on top of buildings, instead of expanding development outwards away from the city. This creates a rich and closely-packed environment. Animals also infill their vocalizations, as with frogs croaking around ponds, an insect chorus in the evening, or bird flocks singing at dawn. Different species claim their own range to be heard through the din.

"As city sounds encroach on the natural sounds surrounding them, animals adjust further. Birds re-pitch their songs around human noise, or change when they sing, in order to be heard during quieter times. This piece explores these available spaces, with recordings primarily from indoor museums and city parks. Layered soundscapes infill each other, letting insects, museum exhibits, airplanes, and birds, share what remains of the environment between them.

"All field recordings were recorded by Logan on location in California & Wyoming (USA), Borneo, and Spain; except excerpts from "009 ITALY Venice Joan Jonas Ocean Space exhibition Chiesa di San Lorenzo April 2019" recorded by "Cities and Memory".  Music was performed by Venice biennial sound artists, CA Exploratorium Museum performers, Spain street buskers."
