The United Nations is working closely with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization to trace contacts of the confirmed COVID-19 case.

The High-Level taskforce on Sunday announced South Sudan’s first case of coronavirus; a UN staff member who entered the country on 28th February. UN Special Representative David Shearer says the patient has since been isolated and adds that the United Nations is providing the necessary support to the national task-force.

Mr. Shearer says it is most likely the infected person contracted the virus in South Sudan since she has been in the country for five weeks; beyond the 14-day incubation period for the virus.

The Special Representative spoke to Radio Miraya in this interview.
