Wellington winds

New Zealand lockdown sound recorded by John Heighes.

"Wellington is officially the windiest city on the planet but usually the city noise drowns out the sound of the wind. Now, from the window of my inner city apartment, wind and bird calls are the predominant sounds, with usually shy native birds like fantails very quickly appearing in the newly deserted heart of the city.

"Largely thanks to the New Zealand government's swift and extreme response the sound of sirens is completely absent and the quiet, at first eerie, is strangely comforting, especially when reading of the situations unfolding in some cities worldwide. Here in New Zealand it is now official - 'Be Kind' - and that is the message to get us all through this. Stay well."
