Doing the dishes

Apr 11, 2020, 09:01 AM

Orange County, USA lockdown sound recorded by Sylvie Messing.

"This is a recording of a task I find incredibly mundane yet equally meditative - doing the dishes. We don't have a dishwasher in my home, so we do all of our dishes by hand. Therefore it's super important to stay on top of dishes.

"Here in California, the COVID-19 outbreak has been especially bad; my days are filled with lots of cooking to stay occupied, hence lots of dishes. I thought this would be an honest look into what takes up a lot of my day in quarantine. Additionally, I've been bleaching my utensils, so at the end you can hear me clanking them around and hand drying them.

"It's fascinating to me how such a simple chore actually has huge implications to maintaining my health at this time."
