UNDP supports mass production of face masks for distribution to vulnerable and poor families

The United Nations Development Program - UNDP is supporting the mass production of face masks for distribution to vulnerable and poor families and people living in densely populated areas, such as Protection of Civilian sites, refugee and IDP camps. 
The initial target is to produce 100,000 masks but expandable to a million masks if financial resources are available.  

The Team Leader of the Human Development and Inclusive Growth Unit at UNDP, Daniel Kir says besides protecting the population from coronavirus, the initiative will also involve the employment and provision of livelihood opportunities to at least 200 tailors.

The UNDP, is also working with the Ministry of Environment to disinfect critical public facilities to protect the public from coronavirus.  The exercise will start at Juba International Airport and later move on to other locations. According to Daniel Kir, the equipment has been secured and they are in the process of procuring the chemicals.
