SSPDF confirms Lt. Col. Lual Akook Wol Kiir's death

The South Sudan people’s defence Forces SSPDF has confirmed the death of Lt. Col. Lual Akook Wol Kiir, a suspect in yesterday’s Gumbo- Shirikat shooting.
 SSPDF spokesperson Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang Lt. Col Kiir died of injuries he sustained during the shooting incident.

 Lual Akook Wol Kiir and six of his bodyguards were arrested after a shooting incident that killed at least five people.

 The incident was sparked by a dispute over land.

 Following the incident, hundreds of citizens in Bor town of Jonglei State took to the streets to protest the killings in Gumbo-Shirikat – East of Juba town on Wednesday.

 The protesters demanded justice for the victims. The standoff between the gunman and the residents was triggered by a dispute over a piece of land that houses a bus park.

 General Koang says his co-accused will be arraigned before a court martial for trial.
