The British mark the 31 October 1940 as the end of the Battle of Britain – the last day of day-time raids by the German air force. However, it was the 15th September - a day of extremely heavy fighting, now commemorated as Battle of Britain Day – which is regarded as the turning point in the battle.
The Battle of Britain was a decisive victory that kept Britain in the war and forced Nazi Germany to postpone its plans to invade. The war continued for nearly five more years, so what lessons did the British – and the Germans – learn from the battle?
