#255: Walking Through Loss with Emily Honea

Sep 14, 2020, 10:00 AM

What do you say when someone you love experiences loss? How is even possible to find the blessings when the pain of losing a loved one is your own? If you haven’t experienced grief yourself, you’re likely to have a friend who has and you’ll feel that urge to come alongside them. Today I brought on a listener who helped my sister Katie when she was blindsided with grief and I wanted her to come to share her insight.

Emily Honea rides a pony. Not really, but Honea rhymes with pony, so now you might be able to remember how to say her last name. Emily is a regular mom who lives just outside of Dallas, Texas and spends most of her days wrangling her two young boys. She has been married for eleven years and is thankful every day for God’s provision for her through her husband Jeremy. Emily works part-time from home as an online adjunct professor of Communication Studies, and recently started a podcast. It is called Uniquely You Podcast which looks at how God created us each uniquely using the Bible as well as the enneagram.

WHAT WE CHAT ABOUT:
  • how motherhood revealed Emily’s selfishness
  • dealing with postpartum anxiety after the traumatic birth of her son
  • navigating a house with high energy people when you like peace and quiet
  • encouragement for moms with kids in the potty training phase
  • the loss of Emily’s father to a brain tumor and what that experience has taught her about grief
  • the six stages of grief
  • the difference between moving on and moving forward
  • how to help friends who are grieving
