'St Pete Catalyst" w/ Bill DeYoung: Betty Fox

Episode 3991,   Sep 29, 2020, 02:39 PM

Blues powerhouse Betty Fox hasn’t exactly been idle during the pandemic. Although all her gigs were canceled, the vocalist and frontwoman for the Tampa-based Betty Fox Band spent the last few months writing songs for a new album, to be called Quarantunes.

Fox and guitarist Josh Nelms guested on The Catalyst Sessions Friday, performing a couple of soulful, gospel-fueled tunes and discussing the history of the band, their inspirations and the recording sessions for their most recent album, Peace in Pieces, at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Fox and Nelms also revealed that the Betty Fox Band will return to live performances in October, for an every-Thursday residency at the Hideaway Café.

The Hideaway, Fox said, “feels a lot like home.”

Nelms, Fox’s longtime musical partner, agreed. “It was the catalyst for putting the band together,” he said. “It’s been a wonderful place to try new music out. Like if we write a new song, that’s probably the first place we’re going to play it onstage.”
