From the beautiful city of Matera, the third oldest in the world, Richard and Daniel report from a stage of the Giro d'Italia won in impressive style by French champion Arnaud Démare. We hear from his Groupama-FDJ leadout man, Jacopo Guarnieri, who is keeping an audio diary for The Cycling Podcast, and also from another of our diarists, James Knox, whose Deceuninck-Quickstep team defended the pink jersey of overall leader.

There are interviews with Bjarne Riis and Beppe Martinelli, the men in charge at NTT and Astana respectively, and with Wilco Kelderman, the Dutchman who is a serious contender for overall victory, and his Sunweb teammate, Jai Hindley.

And we learn about a new coffee, the espressino.
