Black Girl Galaxy EP 4 | The Blacker The Berry

Episode 4,   Oct 30, 2020, 01:00 PM

On this episode of Black Girl Galaxy, I will be exploring the topic of Misogynoir. A term coined by Queer black feminist Moya Bailey in 2010, with the root words misogyny and noir (French for Black) The term describes the specific hatred, dislike, distrust, and prejudice directed towards black women. I will be exploring Misogynoir with my guest Azaria a singer song writer and the host of Bad Gyal Chat podcast.  I will be looking at this topic through the lenses of three main stereotypes the first being the Jezebel stereotype, the second being the Mammy stereotype and the third being the Sapphire stereotype. These stereotypes along with other white supremacist based ideologies have led to the oppression and decreased health outcomes for black women. Despite these stereotypes plaguing black women we have been able to reclaim our bodies, autonomy and value and will continue to. It is important to explore this intersectionality as we think of ways to uplift and empower black women. At the end of the episode I recognize 6 amazing black Canadian women who are inspirations for us all.
