Casey Kasem - Tribute

Episode 426,   Apr 26, 2012, 10:34 PM

Casey Kasem hosted another one of those famous international radio shows which UK listeners caught as they scanned up and down the dial when music radio was so scarce, not so very many years ago.

'American Top 40' ended up being broadcast on around 1000 stations in 50 countries. Casey Kasem hosted; and his voice became likely one of the best known on radio in the World. The programme began on Independence Day in 1970, with Casey presenting from 1970 to 1988; and again from 1998 to 2004. In the intervening years, he hosted other networked chart shows.

Casey was known for this measured presentation performance, his long distance dedications and for teasing the next song with skill.

Hear here the first edition of AT40 on July 4th 1970, a 1980s edition; and his farewell edition in 2004. And, for the record, hear Casey as the voice of Shaggy in the cartoon, Scooby Doo.

"Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars".

Casey ended his broadcasting career in July, 2009, after 39 years on air. He died on 15th June 2014.
