The National Ministry of Health says COVID-19 testing for travelers will now be conducted by a private entity at a fee.

The incident manager for COVID-19 in the ministry of health, Dr Richard Lino Laku in an exclusive interview to Radio Miraya said that the fees have been introduced because the testing facility at the Emergency Operation Center is overburdened with requests, and is unable to carry out its mandated function of tracing and testing samples from contacts.

The announcement comes after reports of travelers protesting the testing charges said to be about 70 US dollars for nationals and 100 US dollars for foreign travelers. Dr Lino confirmed that fees are to be paid at Med Blue laboratory in Juba, a private lab that has been approved to conduct the tests.
