Winter meetings and more with Elizabeth Muratore

Season 1, Episode 67,   Dec 09, 2020, 01:22 PM

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, a show by the women of Amazin’ Avenue where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.
This week, we have Elizabeth Muratore of our sister blog Rising Apple on the show. We begin by discussing Elizabeth’s Mets fandom and how she began writing about the Mets. We also wax poetic about the Mets blogging community and going to Mets games in the Before Times.
Next, we talk about the Trevor May signing and what we expect out of the new regime at this week’s winter meetings.
In our baseball segment, we discuss why executives might be turned off by Steve Cohen’s bold proclamations and how it is one example of an ongoing disturbing cost-cutting mindset in front offices (especially in the time of COVID-19). We cite the Phillies’ failed rebuild, the Rays not building on their success, and the prominent non-tenders across baseball as other indicators.

We also salute the late Dick Allen, who should be in the Hall of Fame.

Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.
