If you're a seasoned Podcast Listener - this podcast is going to be different from most you listen to.  It's based around exactly what the name implies - Warehouse Safety Tips.  And since the people in that industry are busy - we know time is money, so each episode will be as short and to the point as possible.

And now that all that is out of the way - let's get to the Podcast!

If you've ever been in the middle of something and experienced a power outage - you know just how unexpected it can be.

And although you can't predict exactly when it'll happen - you CAN be prepared for when it does.

One of the first things you need to do is make sure you have all the tools and procedures in place BEFORE it occurs.

This includes - but isn't limited to:

  • Have specific routines in place should an outage occur.
  • Staying calm.
  • Having Emergency Power and Lighting in place at your facility.  And even more importantly - running frequent drills to assure it's working properly.
  • Making sure you have working flashlights available and the staff knows where they're located.  Make changing out the batteries on these items as part of a regular Safety Routine.
  • Have Emergency Floor Lighting and/or Glowing Safety Floor Tape in place to show staff where to navigate in the event of an outage.
  • Assuring equipment and/or machines that need to be shutdown with certain procedures are on backup systems wherever possible.  If the equipment isn't on a backup and properly shutdown - be very mindful of issues that could arise once the power is restored.
  • Taking a headcount to assure all staff is safe.
  • Knowing where all First Aid, Defibulator, and other Emergency Locations are - should staff get injured during the outage.
  • Having the Contact Info of everyone that needs to be alerted of issues.

You may go years without seeing an outage - or you might be in a location where it happens frequently.  Regardless - do your best to keep a level mind and stay as safe as possible during outages.

Although not mentioned above - try to note everything you're NOT prepared for, so you can remedy the situation in the future.

Doing this will lessen your chances of being caught off guard more and more as it occurs - and create a safer facility for you and your staff.

Before moving on - here's a word from one of our sponsors.
