WAP, Lori Harvey and the Song of Solomon Sex and the Modern Day Woman

Season 2,   Mar 12, 2021, 01:00 PM

On this installation of Conversations, Libations, and Revelations, Dr. Stephanie is joined by Jada Samuel to have a candid discussion about developing healthy attitudes and behaviors around sexuality in the modern times.  Reflecting on her upbringing that led to an unhealthy view of sex as a young woman and even as a married woman, Dr. Stephanie muses on wishing her Mom had taught her about the Song of Solomon.  Weaving in the recent castigation of Lori Harvey’s dating habits and presumptions around her sex life, they explore how women are criticized while men are celebrated for sexually explicit lyrics.  Was WAP an anthem or anathema?  Were people more upset that Cardi B expressed it or that she made a song about it?  All three conversations focus around being able to balance sexuality and societal perceptions.  How free is too free?  Women listening will be inspired to fully embrace their sexuality and make personal decisions that are best for them without guilt, shame, or societal pressures.
