In this interview, Tameka discusses the mental and emotional work she had to do being paralyzed as a child. She also discusses the importance of being disabled and advocating for yourself in the worlds of education and filmmaking.

Tameka Citchen-Spruce has over 10 years experience in disability advocacy and media. Mrs. Spruce was Ms. Wheelchair MI 2006. As a Ms. Wheelchair MI, she spoke out about supporting women with disabilities who are being abused. Two years later she formed Women Empower Inc, empowering women with disabilities to live their best lives. She is a proud member of Warriors on Wheels of Metropolitan Detroit. And she volunteers for Muslim Anti-Racism Collaborative. In 2017, she was chosen to be a Disability Ambassador for World Disability Institute, where she represented people with disabilities at the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Conference.
