The UN Food and Agriculture Organization – FAO, says it has started supplying assorted seeds and fishing kits to different locations in the country. The UN agency aims to preposition ten – thousand (10,000) metric tons of crop seeds to vulnerable families this year. 70 percent of the seeds are being imported from the region while 30 percent sourced locally.
Speaking to Radio Miraya's Philip Wani, FAO's plant protection officer, Morris Felix Juma, says upon delivery the seeds will be tested before they are distributed to farmers.
Meanwhile, the FAO says its emergency teams are ready to respond to any resurgence of desert locusts amid the rainy season.  Morris Felix Juma, says the swarms have significantly subsided in the region but worried that the rains are most likely to create a breeding ground for the insects.
