Anchor Down Podcast, May 3, 2021: VandyBoys MiLB Realignment Roundup with Connor Kaiser, Justin Wilson, Rhett Wiseman, and Patrick Raby

May 03, 2021, 10:20 PM

As Minor League Baseball finally returns this week for the 2021 season with its condensed realignment, Max Herz interviews four former Vanderbilt baseball players who were affected by the changes and 2020's cancellation in different ways:

-6:30, Former Commodore shortstop Connor Kaiser (2016-18), a third round pick of the Pirates in 2018, jumps over two levels of the MiLB ladder as he joins the AAA Indianapolis Indians after playing A-ball in 2019.

-19:00, Justin Wilson came to Vanderbilt as a junior college transfer in the summer of 2016, and pitched in seven games for the 2018 Commodores before being drafted in the 23rd round by the Yankees. After a strong 2019 in short season A-ball, Wilson's first full season assignment is a jump to High-A as he joins the Hudson Valley Renegades to start 2021.

-31:15, Rhett Wiseman was a Commodore fan favorite from 2013-15 as the starting right fielder on Vandy's first two College World Series finalist teams, including the 2014 championship. Wiseman was drafted in the 3rd round by the Nationals in 2015, and returns to the AA Harrisburg Senators this year for his sixth Minor League Season. All three of his previous MiLB clubs prior to Harrisburg were eliminated in the realignment.

-45:40, Patrick Raby is Vanderbilt's career leader in pitcher wins, racking up 32 wins in the VandyBoys rotation over four seasons from 2016-19. Raby was drafted by the Reds in the 17th round during the 2019 national championship season, and pitched in rookie ball for the rest of that summer. He decided to retire from professional baseball prior to this 2021 season, and explains what led him to that decision in this interview.
