Rachel Hoyland, Senior Associate, Hill Dickinson

Season 2, Episode 8,   May 14, 2021, 11:00 AM

This week’s podcast guest is Rachel Hoyland, shipping lawyer and Senior Associate at Hill Dickinson. She provides an incisive and informative legal ‘take’ on the key issues on the decarbonisation agenda. As the call grows for a price to be put on shipping’s GHG emissions, and countries begin to implement their own emissions trading systems, Rachel takes a look at recent regulatory developments. She also shares her insights as to how charterparty clauses may have to adapt to changing regulations, and the variety of low- and zero-carbon fuels that are entering the market.

After qualifying as a lawyer in 2020, Rachel moved to an In-house Counsel role at CMA CGM in the city of Liverpool. She joined the shipping team at Hill Dickinson in 2015 and in recent years has taken a particular interest in ESG, decarbonisation and green issues for clients, and has worked on projects in these fields with the IMO and the UK Department of Transport.
