GENESIS GV60 ELECTRIC CROSSOVER COMING IN 2021

"a new report coming from South Korea and claiming Genesis will launch a compact crossover named GV60 later this year. The report originates from Asia Times and claims Genesis has actually confirmed the GV60 name for its first EV utility. Earlier this year, the manufacturer confirmed its first all-electric crossover is coming later this year but it didn’t confirm its actual name. It will be launched alongside a Kia-branded electric crossover and the production version of the Hyundai 45 concept wearing the Ioniq 5 moniker." says MOtor1: "It seems that the rumored SUV will allegedly take the position of an entry-level crossover for the brand, at least in terms of its dimensions. Asia Times also reports another battery-powered SUV will join the brand’s lineup in December this year. It’ll be called GV70e and will be positioned above the GV60 as an all-electric alternative to the GV70."

RENAULT TO USE EV FROM CHINESE JV PARTNER FOR RIDE-HAILING

"Renault plans to introduce an electric vehicle built by one of the group’s Chinese joint ventures specifically for ride-hailing services in 2022, CEO Luca de Meo said. The midsize sedan was first developed by JMEV, a venture with Jingliang Motors in which Renault holds a majority stake. It is known in China as the EZoom Yi and is expected to go on sale this year in China, according to news media reports there." writes Automotive News Europe: "According to reports in Chinese media, the Ezoom Yi has a power output of about 150 hp from an electric motor, and between 350 and 400 km of range, a figure confirmed by de Meo. Commentators have taken note that the EZoom logo is diamond-shaped and similar to the Renault “lozenge” logo. In addition to JMEV, Renault has two remaining Chinese joint ventures: A partnership with Brilliance Jinbei focused on commercial vehicles; and eGT New Energy Automotive (with Dongfeng and Nissan), which builds EVs, including the Dacia Spring that is launching in Europe this year."

DS 4 PREMIUM HATCHBACK UNVEILED TO CHALLENGE AUDI A3

"The all-new DS 4 has been revealed, along with a bold plan for the French car to straddle two sectors to take on rivals both in the premium hatchback class as well as crossover SUVs. Trading on France’s heritage of haute couture as well as the latest technology, DS hopes the 4 will compete with cars as wide ranging as the BMW 1 Series and the Mercedes GLA." according to Autocar: "This PHEV version comes with a 12.4kWh battery, located under the boot floor, that’s good for an electric-only range of roughly 30 miles. Technological highlights include level 2 semi-autonomous driving, Active Scan Suspension (borrowed from the DS 7 Crossback), and a detailed head-up display showing everything from full navigation instructions to what song is playing. The Active Scan Suspension scans the road ahead, between a distance of 5m and 25m, and alters the suspension making it firmer or softer depending on what’s needed. Night vision is also offered."

HOUSTON, UBER AND BP PARTNER TO AID EV TRANSITION FOR DRIVERS

"Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, also the newly appointed chair of Climate Mayors, announced Monday a partnership between BP, Uber and the City of Houston to explore the planning and deployment of BP’s rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs to help the city’s Uber drivers make the transition to EVs. " so says Smart Cities Dive: "The groups will identify potential locations in Houston to support distribution of the charging hubs, with a focus on deploying a "convenient and equitable" network of charging stations available to the public. The pilot will seek ways to bring EV charging to underserved communities and "ensure proportional distribution of infrastructure and resources," according to the announcement. The pilot program is designed to support EVolve Houston's goal to achieve 30% EV adoption by 2030 and the city's Climate Action Plan, in addition to supporting Uber’s goal to become a zero-emission platform by 2040 with 100% of rides taken in a zero emission vehicle, on public transit or using a micromobility device. EVERGRANDE  SAYS ‘TRIAL’ PRODUCTION STARTED

"China Evergrande Group, the property giant with ambitions to take on Elon Musk in the world of electric vehicles, released photos and video footage of its first batch of cars undergoing a winter test." says Bloomberg: "Pictures of 10 sports-utility vehicles, whose model name wasn’t disclosed, were shown driving in a circle on a snow-covered field in Inner Mongolia. The three-week cold climate test will include a performance evaluation of the vehicle’s body, battery, electric motor and electric-control system, Evergrande said in a statement. Other details like the cars’ driving range weren’t revealed. Still, the road test is a milestone of sorts for Evergrande, which has spent more than $3.7 billion on an array of EV-related companies after announcing in 2019 it wanted to be the world’s premier manufacturer of green cars within three to five years, toppling Tesla Inc."

CHINA’S NEV MARKET: TOP FIVE CITIES FOR TRUCKS AND VANS

"Chinese carmakers are making a huge bet on the future of new energy vehicles (NEVs), raising a large pile of capital from investors at home and abroad to finance their ambitions. While NIO, Xpeng [WM Motor] and BYD are dominating the headlines with their rivalry in the passenger electric car segment, commercial vehicle manufacturers are separately slugging it out in their own turf in the sale of new-energy trucks and vans, as the government introduced policies to cut its dependence on fossil fuels and has also pledged to become carbon neutral by 2060." says Yahoo Finance.

TOP 10 MOST ELECTRIC VEHICLE FRIENDLY STATES

"The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy has released the first State Transportation Electrification Scorecard and by California wins first place, leading in five of the six categories the council used to rank states. Despite the transportation sector's responsibility for 28% of greenhouse gas emissions in the US, electric vehicles account for only 2% of the American car market. EVs, the report noted, "stand to play a critical role in reducing emissions and achieving aggressive climate goals."" says TechRepublic: "California is the only state to set deadlines for electrifying transit buses, heavy duty trucks, and commercial vehicles and to adopt statewide building codes for wiring most types of new buildings and houses for EV charging. The other top 10, in order, are: New York, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington, Vermont, Colorado, Oregon, and New Jersey."

HARLEY-DAVIDSON UNVEILS 5-YEAR PLAN

"Harley-Davidson has just unveiled its new five-year plan known as The Hardwire. And while some old-school motorcycle media had previously speculated that Harley-Davidson would drop electric motorcycles, they couldn’t have been more wrong." says electrek:" For anyone who has actually ridden the LiveWire electric motorcycle and talked with the Harley-Davidson execs who were responsible for bringing that project to fruition, it was obvious that H-D was going full speed ahead on EVs. By focusing on H-D’s core strength of heavyweight motorcycles and by investing in the development of electric motorcycles, the company may well be setting the stage for more solid footing both in the near and more distant future."
