VW ID.4 TO HAVE ITS WORLD PREMIERE THIS SPRING

"Volkswagen's next ID production model, the ID 4 crossover, will be revealed at New York motor show in April. The new EV will retain many of the same exterior themes as the ID Crozz concept car, which was first shown in 2017. " reports Autocar.co.uk: "The electric crossover-style SUV will be an important part of the VW ID brand's range offensive in the US, as well as in Europe, following the launch of the ID 3 hatchback.         There will be two versions of the ID SUV: a standard model and a coupe-SUV in the vein of the original concept, which are expected to be named the ID 4 and ID 5 respectively. The ID 5 will be revealed at a later date. A camouflaged ID 4 prototype was also shown at last September’s Frankfurt motor show during the launch of the ID 3, with which it will share many design cues. The ID 4 and ID 5 will be built in Europe, the US and China, cementing its status as a truly global model and a crucial kingpin of the brand's rapid EV rollout."

And from Electrek: "In November, Scott Keogh, CEO of VW of America, said that the ID Crozz will sell in the low- to mid-$30,000 range after a $7,500 federal tax credit. That suggests a pre-incentive sticker price of around $40,000 for the brand’s first high-volume, ground-up EV sold in the US.

The ID Crozz goes on sale in late 2020. Volkswagen is expected to sell about 50,000 to 75,000 units per year in the first two years."

ELON MUSK: TESLA ACQUISITION OF MAXWELL IS GOING TO HAVE A VERY BIG IMPACT ON BATTERIES

"Elon Musk has commented on Tesla’s acquisition of Maxwell, an ultra-capacitor manufacturer and battery technology company, and shed some lights on the automaker’s plan for the company." says electrek: "the CEO said that the advancements in Li-ion battery technology have made ultra-capacitors unnecessary for electric vehicles. Musk said that Tesla is looking into using several of Maxwell’s battery technologies. The CEO said that it’s going to be a “big deal” and that it could have a “very big impact” on their business. Musk confirmed that Maxwell’s dry electrode technology is “one of the technologies” that could be a “big deal”."

TESLA HACKER SAYS UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IS IMPOSSIBLE IN TESLAS

"Jason Hughes is definitely not a person you would classify as a Tesla guardian. He has helped us clarify the MCUv1 issues on the early cars of the company and is known for admonishing Tesla." says Gustavo at InsideEVs who asked him for a statement.

"I've examined logs from 29 accident vehicles to date, 19 of which were third-party unintended acceleration related – several for direct customers, over a dozen for a particular insurance company.  One hundred percent of them were pedal misapplication. The driver was pressing the accelerator pedal commanding the acceleration, and then in most cases, eventually braked and stopped the car. In two cases, the driver actually never touched the brake, but the obstacle or airbag deployment prevented further movement of the vehicle. The drive units contain at least three distinct pieces of hardware that all simultaneously crosscheck any pedal input. The pedal hardware itself contains two independent sensors that must agree as well. This way, only a genuine pedal input will cause torque to be commanded. There are additional crosschecks of this in other modules as well, such as the ABS. While Tesla is far from perfect, the powertrain control setup, specifically related to these sudden acceleration claims, is something they deserve a lot of credit on. It's a solid system, with a ton of thought put into how to make it as safe as possible.”

ENTREPRENEUR ADDS MOBILE SERVICE STATION AT TESLA SUPERCHARGERS

"Charging Stop just launched 3 weeks ago at the Tesla Supercharger in Culver City, California. They initially opened up to provide coffee to customers looking to charge, and as they surveyed potential customers visiting the Supercharger, he found the one thing most customers really wanted was a car wash, so he pivoted." reports CleanTechnica. Kyle says: "As I rolled into the Culver City Supercharger during my pit stop last week, 7 Teslas waited in line for an opening at the full charging station. A sign at the front of the line informed owners that they could get their vehicle cleaned up while it charged for a few bucks, with either a fast wash for $19 or a full wash for $33."

BYD INTRODUCES THE LARGEST ELECTRIC MOTORCOACH IN NORTH AMERICA

BYD (Build Your Dreams) announced it will bring three of its battery-electric, zero-emission motorcoaches to the United Motorcoach Association’s annual expo in Nashville, Tenn., being held Jan. 19-23.

BYD will display its 45-foot double-deck C10MS, the largest battery-electric motorcoach in North America. The C10MS can seat up to 77 people and has a range of up to 230 miles.

BYD will also display its C8MS 35-foot double-deck motorcoach, with 51 seats and a range of up to 170 miles, and the C9M 40-foot motorcoach, with 49 seats and a range of up to 200 miles.

PORSCHE TAYCAN CROSS TURISMO, SPORT TURISMO SPIED CHARGING UP

""There’s been a new sighting of the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, and possibly the sleeker Sport Turismo as well. Steven Hopemaster shared a couple of photos on Twitter showing a pair of electrified wagons holding ground at an EV charging station, joined by a third Taycan in sedan form that's still wearing bonkers taillight camouflage." according to Christopher Smith at Motor1.com: "The powertrain for each will almost certainly mirror what’s available on the Taycan, which means 4S and Turbo variants will offer a range of performance from merely fast to insane."

The tweet says: "Looks like there will soon be a #Porsche #Taycan Sport Tourismo #EV or however they will call the estate-version."

TESLA MODEL Y EXPECTED TO SURPRISE IN UPCOMING Q4 2019 EARNINGS CALL

"Tesla may be incredibly quiet and conservative with its Model Y timeframes, but if recent sightings and alleged leaks are any indications, it appears that the upcoming all-electric crossover is coming sooner than expected. An announcement of its impending release is expected to be made by company executives on the upcoming Q4 2019 Financial Results and earnings call, scheduled for January 29 at 3:30 PM PST." reprts Teslarati: "The upcoming Q4 2019 earnings call on January 29 will hold several critical updates about the company’s ongoing projects, such as Gigafactory 3 in China and Gigafactory 4 in Europe. If signs and sightings are any indication, it would not be surprising at all if Elon Musk or any other Tesla executives would release an update on the Model Y’s mass production and first deliveries as well."
