KIA NIRO EV NOW OFFICIALLY ON SALE IN U.S.

• "The highly anticipated Kia Niro EV has finally gone on sale in the U.S. It took longer than expected, but the long-range electric crossover from Kia is now officially on sale in the U.S. In fact, some deliveries have already commenced. The Kia Niro EV is similar to the Hyundai Kona Electric, though the Niro has much more rear seat legroom, something that is sorely lacking in the Kona Electric." reports Eric Loveday for InsideEVs.com.
• One of the comments on the new look forum: "Looking forward to sitting in one. This weekend for the first time we sat in a number os EVs in trying to determine which one best suits us. First we went to Tesla and sat in a Model 3. It was WAY smaller than i expected, I'm 6'2" and my son is taller than I am. We barely had headroom in the rear seats. Next we went to Hyundai and sat in the Kona and Ioniq and both weren't even close to having headroom in the rear seats. Last we went and sat in a Chevy Bolt. More rear seat headroom than the Hyundais, but less headroom than that Model 3. So, funny how we thought the Model 3 was cramped, but by the end of the day the other cars made the Model 3 seem cavernous."

Judging by how conventional this EV looks from the outside, a regular BMW interior does not shock us." writes Autoblog today: "This i4 seems to be a big step in the "normal" direction for BMW's i division. Obviously a lot of the interior is still covered up in these photos, but our clear view of the infotainment screen, climate controls and gear shift is enough to make such a judgment."

IONITY TO BUILD ULTRA-FAST CHARGING STATIONS FOR EUROPEAN UNION

• "IONITY happily announced that it secured EUROP-E funding from the European Union for the Pan-European EV infrastructure across 13 countries (from Poland to Portugal and from Sweden to Italy)." says InsideEVs.com: "According to the press release, some 340 ultra-fast chargers (350 kW each) will be installed across 13 EU Member States by Q8 and IONITY for a total of €195.5 million ($218 million), including €39.1 million ($43.6 million) from EU (largest ever EU co-funded vehicle charging infrastructure project)."

DAIMLER PULLS THE PLUG ON ELECTRIC SMART CAR SALES IN US, CANADA

• "Daimler is ending sales of its diminutive all-electric smart fortwo cars in the U.S. and Canada, officially pulling the plug on a vehicle that has struggled to gain ground in North America as the German automaker prepares to bring the brand to China, TechCrunch has learned." according to Tech Crunch: "Smart won’t be sold in the U.S. and Canada after the 2019 model year, Daimler AG confirmed after two sources familiar with the decision shared the information with TechCrunch. Daimler isn’t killing off the smart vehicle altogether. Daimler announced in March it was forming a joint venture with Zhejiang Geely Holding Group to transform smart into an all-electric brand based in China. Under the agreement, the quirky vehicles will be assembled at a new factory in China. Global sales are expected to begin in 2022, Daimler said at the time."

LOS ANGELES JUST ANNOUNCED ITS OWN GREEN NEW DEAL TO DRASTICALLY SLASH EMISSIONS

• "Los Angeles just announced its own Green New Deal to drastically slash emissions" says Fast Company: "The city is also building the infrastructure to help people who keep driving make the switch to electric cars—including 25,000 new electric charging stations by 2025. School buses and taxis will reach zero emissions by 2028; urban delivery vehicles will reach that goal by 2035. By 2050, every vehicle in the city will have zero emissions."

TESLA PATENT APPLICATION LOOKS AT A SUNROOF WITH INTEGRATED LIGHTING, DIMMING

• "Tesla's latest patent application shows that the future could be looking very bright -- or dim, depending on your preference." reports CNET: "The application outlines a sunroof sandwiched with a variety of layers that give an otherwise normal piece of glass a few different advantages. The first of these is a layer of electrically controllable dimming material that is able to limit the amount of light that enters through the sunroof. Embedded within the sunroof is yet another layer that is capable of generating light. This way, the sunroof can still provide limited illumination in the cabin when an exterior source isn't present."

TESLA BOOSTS REFERRAL PROGRAM BY 500% FOR A LIMITED TIME

Today, the company updated the program to give it a ‘500% Supercharging boost’."
