Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Saturday 16th March 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I’ve been through every EV story I could find today, and picked out the best ones to save you time.

Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.

TESLA MODEL Y COMPARISON: RANGE, PERFORMANCE, OPTIONS, PRICES

"Production of the Tesla Model Y is to begin from late 2020, which is about 1.5 years from now, but Tesla already released a lot of details about the car and made available the design studio." Says Mark Kane at InsideEVs.com: "The three Long Range versions will cost from $47,000 to $60,000 (excluding $1,200 D&H) depending on powertrain option (RWD, AWD or Performance AWD). The Standard battery version, priced at $39,000 will be available in Spring 2021 at the earliest (two years from now). Overseas markets like Europe and China will get the Model Y some 6-12 months later than the U.S"

And Christopher Smith points out: "a fully equipped rig will still set you back $74,500. However, that price will give you the snazzy Performance edition finished in Red Multi-Coat (a $2,500 option) and outfitted with seven-passenger seating – a $3,000 option that actually won’t be available until 2021. Two-tone black/white interior trim adds another $1,000 to the price, and you can’t have a Tesla without Autopilot, right? For the Model Y, Autopilot with full self-driving capability adds $7,000 to the base price. It’s not common for automakers to go live with vehicle configurators so far ahead of production, but Tesla isn’t exactly a common automaker. Given the unquenchable thirst buyers have for crossover and SUVs, the Model Y is a tremendously important vehicle for Tesla. "

KIA AND AMAZON TEAM UP TO SELL AT-HOME ELECTRIC CHARGING STATIONS

Autoblog has the lowdown on the latest partner for Amazon: "Amazon really wants to be the one-and-only destination you go to for online shopping, and it's edging a little further into the car world with its latest partnership. Kia is teaming with the online retail giant to sell and install Level 2 chargers for your home. To buy the chargers on offer, you'll need to own/lease an electric or plug-in Kia, or at least have one on order. That includes the Niro EV, Soul EV, Niro PHEV and Optima PHEV."

"The benefit to this way of acquiring a 240-volt charger is that Amazon sets up the whole installation process. It'll call out an electrician to inspect your house to see if any changes need to be made to support it, then install the charger. A choice of three Level 2 car chargers are being sold through this partnership. The brands include Bosch, ChargePoint and JuiceBox, ranging from most to least expensive respectively."

CHINA NEW ENERGY VEHICLE PRODUCTION SOARS UPWARDS AGAIN

"For the first two months in 2019, China’s new energy passenger vehicle (PV) wholesale volume surged 132% from a year ago to 141,958 units, among which the Feb. sales reached 50,783 units with a sharp year-on-year (YoY) growth of 74%, according to the data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA)." According to Gasgoo for InsideEVs.com: "As to the year-to-date (YTD) sales, BYD gained three places of the top 5 models, namely, the BYD Yuan EV, the BYD e5 and the BYD Tang DM. The BAIC EU Series boasted a spectacular YoY growth of 2352.8%, topping other models included the top 10 list."

2019 BYD YUAN EV360 NOW ON SALE IN CHINA

The Yuan EV360 is a small-sized all-electric SUV launched by BYD in last May. On March 9, its all-new version hit the market with 3 variants. Powering the new vehicle is a permanent magnet synchronous generator that produces up to 70kW and 180N·m, and a 43.2kWh ternary-lithium battery pack with an energy density of 126.91Wh/kg. The 2019 Yuan EV360 features a combined range of 305km, according to BYD’s introduction."

2020 PORSCHE TAYCAN TEASED WEARING COLORFUL STRIPES

"A colorful new batch of teaser images provides a fresh look at the upcoming Porsche Taycan. The company also discloses a few new details about the electric sedan's development." Reports Motor1.com today: "Porsche 911 model line boss August Achleitner also provides his view on the Taycan project in the new teaser. "What characterizes a purebred Porsche is the fact that it always actively involves its driver," he said. "And this philosophy is contained in the Taycan, just as much as in the 911. The adjustment period from one vehicle to the next takes a few minutes. If even that. The Taycan will offer over 600 horsepower and be capable of reaching 62 miles per hour in less than 3.5 seconds. A full charge should offer roughly 310 miles of range."

PORSCHE TAYCAN CROSS TURISMO RELEASE DATE REVEALED

"After seeing the prototypes and getting confirmation of production, we finally have a release window for the wagon version of the Porsche Taycan. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume in a press event said the car, officially called the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, "is set to follow [the sedan] at the end of 2020." According to Autoblog: When the Taycan Cross Turismo goes on sale, it should look very similar to the Mission E Cross Turismo concept that inspired it. Spy photos of the test mules show a profile nearly identical, with only a few things toned down for production such as less pronounced fender vents and no evidence of the concept's hood-mounted fog lights. "

ALL-NEW RENAULT ZOE SPIED LOOKING A LOT LIKE TODAY'S MODEL

Next up we hear from Anthony Karr from MOtor1.com: "After taking a look at Motor1.com’s homepage this morning, one could assume the death of the internal combustion engine is right around the corner. That’s not entirely true but it’s more than obvious that nearly every automaker is embracing electrification under full power these days. And the latest to show progress is Renault which is now testing the second-generation Zoe on public roads. Initial details about the powertrain of the new Zoe suggest it will receive a 50-kWh battery pack providing a range of roughly 249 miles (400 kilometers) between two charges measured by the new WLTP cycle. A significant improvement on charging capabilities should come courtesy of a new 100-kW CCS2 fast charging technology."

VAUXHALL CONSIDERS HOT ELECTRIC CORSA VXR TO RIVAL NEXT 208 GTI

"Expected to follow the reveal of an all-electric Corsa at the start of next year, the brand has voiced interest in performance EVs" I picked up from Evo today: "When speaking about plans for the future, the brand’s CEO expressed interest in the performance and ‘fun’ that electric powertrains could offer.

“Speaking with our sister magazine Auto Express, Vauxhall/Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller said: ‘...most people think electrification is for green reasons, for CO2 etc. It’s not only that – it’s also fun. I think that’s what we’re thinking of and how we might bring that to more people.’ He also added: ‘We’re thinking about how we can bring electrification to a new level in terms of sportiness. This emotional aspect of electrification is important, so it’s not years away.’"
