CUMULATIVE TESLA MODEL 3 PRODUCTION ESTIMATE EXCEEDS 200,000

  • "Bloomberg’s Tesla Model 3 Tracker shows that cumulative production of the Tesla Model 3 exceeds the major milestone of 200,000. That is since July 2017 when the 30 first were delivered. The counter indicates 200,667 total Model 3 produced and an average production rate of 5,455 Model 3 per week. [13-week trailing average]" reports Mark Kane for InsideEVs "Total production this quarter reportedly already hit 45,000, which, with more than one month to go, should make Q1 the best quarter so far, but of course, a lot depends on how accurate the estimates are."
  • Comment from CommonSense: "So if you add in the x and s then they are making around 9,000 cars a week. Or 468,000 cars a year. So it looks like they are already on track to surpass their goals for the year. In other words Musk is wisely placing Tesla in a position where they will exceed expectations."

EVS TO BLAME FOR HONDA SHUTDOWN

  • Ian Howells, senior vice-president for Honda in Europe, told the BBC: "We're seeing unprecedented change in the industry on a global scale. We have to move very swiftly to electrification of our vehicles because of demand of our customers and legislation. This is not a Brexit-related issue for us, it's being made on the global-related changes I've spoken about."
  • Greg Clarke says the UK is a world leader in EVs and Autonomous Vehicles.

TESLA SENTRY MODE UPDATE

  • “Sentry Mode allows your vehicle to be aware of its surroundings while parked by using its sensors, microphones, cameras, and computers. While active, Sentry Mode evaluates the risk of theft or vandalism, and records video, activates visual and auditory alarms, and sends you mobile notifications as necessary.”
  • Note: Additional Battery power is consumed while Sentry Mode is active. To enable Sentry Mode battery level must be greater than 20%.
  • “Sentry Mode will send recorded footage to Tesla for temporary backup and feature improvement. You can enable or disable this collection any time via the DATA SHARING video clip setting in Controls > Settings > Safety & Security. Please refer to your Owner’s Manual for more information.”
  • “Sentry Mode will play loud music when the alarm is triggered. Avoid leaving sentient beings in the vehicle when Sentry Mode is active.”

EU TARGET TO CUT TRUCK CO2 AND BOOST ZERO-EMISSION TRUCK SALES

  • Trucks in Europe account for 22% of vehicle emissions while making up less than 5% of the vehicles on the road.""
  • "Truckmakers will have to cut the carbon emissions of trucks they sell in Europe by almost a third by 2030, following a deal reached in the early hours of this morning by EU lawmakers. Transport & Environment (T&E) said the bloc’s first ever emissions reduction targets for heavy-duty vehicles and a sales benchmark for zero and low-emission trucks – also agreed by lawmakers – would spark climate action and fuel savings. "
  • "Manufacturers whose new truck sales are more than 2% electric and hydrogen vehicles will be rewarded with a less stringent CO2 target. The deal also includes a 2-tonne additional weight allowance for zero-emission trucks. T&E said the targets will help kick-start the shift away from diesel. Diesel trucks now account for almost 20% of air pollution in cities such as Berlin and London."
  • Stef Cornelis, cleaner trucks officer at T&E, said: "With the world’s first target for zero-emission trucks, EU regulators are sending a strong signal to the market. So far Europe’s big truckmakers have done very little to create a market for electric and hydrogen trucks. They now have a unique opportunity to take the lead in the race to produce affordable, reliable zero-emission trucks. But they better hurry or they’ll be playing catch up with the Chinese and the Californians just like European carmakers.”

AUDI SHOWS OFF EV QUATTRO CAPABILITY BY CLIMBING 85% GRADIENT SKI SLOPE

  • "in another bid to show the prowess of all-electric vehicles, Audi sent its first fully electric-powered SUV, the e-tron, up the snowy slopes in the hands of Mattias Ekström, World Rallycross champion and two-time DTM champion. " reports Petrolicious: "The car was equipped as a “technology demonstrator” with a special quattro powertrain: two electric motors on the rear axle and one electric motor on the front axle, plus 19in wheels with spiked tyres."

  • Peter Oberndorfer, head of product and technology communications: "We already proved the mettle of the electric SUV last year in a number of Audi e-tron extreme events. From Pikes Peak to the salt plains of Namibia to the high-voltage test bay in Berlin–the Audi e-tron prototype mastered the greatest of challenges. With the sensational drive up the Mausefalle we have pushed the boundaries even further and demonstrated all the technical possibilities of quattro technology in an electric car.”

TESLA’S LARGEST GERMAN CUSTOMER GETS FIRST 4 OF 100 MODEL 3S

  • "Soon, people in Germany will be able to choose from a variety of Model 3 rental cars. Electric car rental service nextmove has ordered 100 Tesla Model 3 sedans for its fleet. nextmove is touted as Germany’s top firm for electric vehicle rental. BMW SEEKING QUIET COOLING TECHNOLOGIES FOR FAST CHARGING OF EVS

  • "BMW is seeking alternative cooling technologies for vehicle batteries to further improve peak cooling capacity during fast charging while reducing cooling components’ vibration and noise emission." says Green Car Congress "Faster charging creates more heat to be dissipated within a short period of time. Current technologies use electric refrigerant compressors. BMW is, therefore, looking for innovative cooling technologies for fast charging applications that can cope with heat dissipation without exceeding current noise levels while operating."

TESLA REMOVES ANY MENTION OF STANDARD MODEL 3 BATTERY FROM WEBSITE – FANS PANIC

  • "Tesla has been promising its standard Model 3 battery pack to bring the price of the vehicle down to the long-awaited $35,000 price, but now Tesla has removed any mention of the base model from its website – sending some fans into a panic." reports Electrek: "For the past few months, Tesla has been listing the version of the vehicle as coming within “4 to 6 months,” but today it removed the timeline from its online configurator and its website."
  • During a conference call with analysts for Tesla’s Q4 financial results last month, Musk said that he estimates the new version of the Model 3 is going to be available around the middle of the year: “We expect to introduce the standard range Model 3 sometime during the middle of this year – it’s a rough, rough guess.”"

MERCEDES-AMG ONE OWNERS HAND IMPRINT NEEDED FOR DRIVING GLOVES

  • Jacob Olivier for Motor1.com "The Mercedes-AMG One is a stunning hypercar that’s set to bring F1 technology to the road. With a 1.6-liter V6 and three electric motors powering up the car, its owners are assured of a momentous driving experience every time they spend time behind the steering wheel. And of course, what accessory is best suited to enhance that driving experience than a pair of driving gloves – and Mercedes-AMG sure knows how to make it the most exclusive for the AMG One’s future owners."one of the future AMG One owners was sent with a box with a template for hand imprint. The instruction is to imprint the owner’s hand onto it so AMG could make the perfect pair of gloves. Now that’s exclusivity to the $2.7-million hypercar."
