- Renault are building on the success with another incremental upgrade to their Zoe. Following a larger battery last year, now they’re upgrading the motor with the R110 model. Its 12kW larger and 16bhp more powerful (91bhp to 107bhp), particularly noticeable at higher speeds, which is what drivers of the new Nissan LEAF have also noticed with the larger motor in that model. The 2018 model year Zoe will also gain Android apps via RLINK, and you can order from spring. http://www.greencarcongress.com/2018/02/20180219-renault.html
- Volkswagen has unveiled another model from the ID range – joining the ID, BUZZ and CROZZ, we’ve not seen the VIZZION. It’s what they call a premium class saloon/sedan, and will be capable of advanced autonomous driving. VW also say it will come with a hefty 111kWh battery and 225kW motor. Those equal 413 mile range and 297bhp respectively. https://www.volkswagen-media-services.com/en/detailpage/-/detail/World-premiere-of-the-ID-VIZZION-in-Geneva-Volkswagen-shows-the-potential-of-its-new-range-of-IDmodels/view/6263949/7a5bbec13158edd433c6630f5ac445da?p_p_auth=kYDRWB9n
- The new Mini Cooper E, which will be assembled in the UK, looks like it won’t go into production until 2019, with the first deliveries at the end of the year, and possibly into 2020. https://www.autoevolution.com/news/mini-cooper-e-electric-vehicle-production-start-confirmed-and-it-s-not-very-soon-123610.html
- In the UK, the private company ‘National Grid’ which manages the electricity infrastructure could be investing in EV Chargers. Up to 50 350kW chargers could be built in England in Wales, with the same in Scotland. Their locations would put 96% of drivers within 50 miles. If we ever get batteries and cooling to cope with such high power, you could charge to 80% in 5 minutes. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/national-grid-plans-350kw-ev-charge-point-network
- And finally, the curious case of used cars values going UP? Used EV are actually rising in value due to demand. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/electric-cars-rise-in-value-after-years-use-amid-growing-demand-0wjzszpq6
