MUSK SAYS TESLA MODEL S PLAID DELIVERY DELAYED A WEEK
"Delivery for Tesla Inc.’s Model S Plaid will be pushed back a week to June 10, CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet. The car “needs one more week of tweak,” Musk said in explaining the delay." reports Bloomberg: "The Model S Plaid, the automaker’s quickest electric vehicle to date, was scheduled to be unveiled at a June 3 delivery event for customers at its factory in Fremont, California."

MKBHD SAYS THE F-150 LIGHTNING IS MUCH BETTER THAN HE EXPECTED
Well-known tech reviewer, long-time Tesla owner Marques Brownlee (aka MKBHD) was able to get an exclusive hands-on experience with the upcoming, all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning. Brownlee admits that the F-150 Lightning is better than he expected. Brownlee notes that the F-150 Lightning was quoting him an impressive 367 miles of range, and it only had an 80 percent charge. Based on his math, with a full 100-percent charge, this electric truck with an empty bed should be able to travel some 459 miles."

The base model is expected to get just 230 miles, though a version with 300 miles of range will be available.

One of the comments notes a follow up video he posted: "He corrected his estimates because the math doesn't add up. He is saying now the extended battery might reach 350-380 miles

ROLLS-ROYCE IS WORKING ON EV CALLED 'SILENT SHADOW'
"Rolls-Royce confirmed it is working on an all-new vehicle called Silent Shadow as the ultraluxury brand prepares to offer a full-electric car to its customers this decade. The BMW unit last year filed a trademark with the German patent office for the name Silent Shadow, a nod to the Silver Shadow model sold from 1965 to 1980." says Automotive News Europe: "Regulation is catching up with automakers, with many countries such as the UK planning to ban the sale of combustion-engine vehicles. While the pandemic suppressed vehicle demand in many regions, Rolls-Royce's production run is booked out for the year. Orders started to rise strongly from the fourth quarter of last year as the pandemic unleashed a free-spending attitude, Mueller-Oetvoes said of the company's clients."

BYD DELIVERS SPAIN’S LARGEST EVER ELECTRIC BUS ORDER
The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid, EMT Madrid has taken the delivery of the 30 electric buses from BYD, ahead of the programmed hand-over schedule in Spain’s largest-ever single order for electric buses.
The upshift in the delivery schedule is even more impressive given the many and varied restrictions on travel, shipping and other logistical complications brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.
The hand-over follows an initial 15 BYD 12-metre electric buses delivered to EMT Madrid in May, 2020 – the first time BYD had supplied vehicles into the Spanish capital. Since entering service, EMT Madrid’s 15-strong BYD fleet has topped over 300,000 km, reducing CO2 emissions approximately by 300,000 kg.

TESLA CYBERTRUCK RETRACTABLE SOLAR BED COVER REVEALED IN PATENT
"Tesla’s plan for a retractable solar bed cover on its Cybertruck electric pickup truck has been revealed in a new patent application. After the launch of the Cybertruck, CEO Elon Musk surprised many when he said that Tesla’s new electric pickup truck will have a solar roof option that will add 15 miles of range per day." reports electrek: "Now, Tesla’s design for the retractable bed cover with solar cells embedded was revealed in a patent application released today. This is impressive considering it’s apparently strong enough for someone to stand on the cover. Tesla also explains that it can embed solar cells in the tonneau cover"

"“A truck bed cover integrated in a vehicle (e.g., a truck), configured to move through an opening formed between a cab and a truck bed, and along a set of channels on the truck bed. The vehicle includes a motor engaged with the truck bed cover and configured to enable an automated movement of the truck bed cover along the set of channels"

TESLA CABIN CAMERA HAS BEEN ENABLED FOR AUTOPILOT DRIVER MONITORING
"Several years after Elon Musk said Tesla rejected eye tracking as a method for measuring driver attentiveness because it's "ineffective," owners of new Teslas are receiving vehicles with the feature active. According to notes in the 2021.4.15.11 update, the cabin camera mounted above the rear view mirror will "detect and alert driver inattentiveness while Autopilot is engaged." says engadget: "Tesla hacker Greentheonly has monitored Tesla's progress in developing the software that watches drivers, and showed what early versions of the system can recognize in some demonstration videos. A few other videos posted to social media in recent weeks show that drivers are starting to receive deliveries of the reworked Model S and Model X with a "yoke" steering wheel and other changes, so there may be more tweaks to find very soon."

Slashgear points out: "The cabin camera apparently works in conjunction with the original steering wheel sensors, which is probably a good thing for reliability. The update also notes that data from the camera doesn’t get out of the car unless you actually agreed to and enabled data sharing."

‘VIRTUAL POWER STATION’ CREATED BY UK POWER NETWORKS
"A ‘virtual power station’ equivalent to the electricity generation of a gas-fired power station, is being created by UK Power Networks. New contracts for energy capacity worth £30 million are being awarded to 17 innovators in the energy, tech and car sector including Octopus Energy, Electric Miles and Ohme, making it the UK’s largest-ever ‘Flexibility’ tender. The far-sighted move is creating new opportunities for batteries and renewable energy with 77% of the capacity coming from low carbon sources." says Autmovei World: "More than two thirds of the new capacity (248 Megawatts) will come from using electric vehicles’ batteries and smart charging when they are hooked up to the power networks.[1] Flexibility providers who have been awarded contracts by UK Power Networks will now recruit up to 25,000 EV owners to support the network in this young and growing market. UK Power Networks, already the largest company to sign agreements for using the power of EVs in the UK, is laying the groundwork now for 2030 when the company estimates that up to 4.5 million new electric vehicles will be connected to the network."

AGGREKO SUPPLIES BATTERY STORAGE SYSTEM FOR ARGONNE’S EV FAST-CHARGING FACILITY
"Aggreko, a provider of mobile and modular energy solutions, has delivered a smart battery storage system to Argonne National Laboratory. Argonne will incorporate the new system into a fast charging facility at its Smart Energy Plaza near Chicago." says ChargedEVs: "The one-Megawatt 30-minute system is designed to enable ultra-fast charging by providing peak power mitigation and power quality services. ANL will also gather data on EV charge profiles exceeding 200 kW to quantify EV and charging system efficiencies, and explore the impact on the grid."

SKODA DEALERSHIPS TO RECEIVE USED 2ND LIFE ENERGY STORAGE
"Skoda and the Czech technology company IBG Cesko are cooperating to use used batteries from the all-electric Enyaq iV and the PHEV models Superb iV and Octavia iV as stationary storage units at Skoda dealerships." says Chris Randall at electrive: "The energy storage system, manufactured together with IBG Cesko, can hold up to 20 batteries from the Superb iV and Octavia iV PHEV models, each with 13 kWh, or five 82 kWh batteries from the Enyaq iV BEV model. In total, the capacity of the system is up to 328 kWh. According to a statement from Skoda, the storage system can be coupled with a charging station. This works for fast charging stations up to a capacity of 150 kW. Alternatively, dealers could also use the energy storage unit for intermediate storage of green electricity from PV systems, for example, to light and air-condition their premises."
