Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 9th June. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.

Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.

APPLE, CHINESE MANUFACTURERS IN TALKS ON U.S. CAR BATTERY FACTORY
"Apple Inc (AAPL.O) is in early-stage talks with China’s CATL (300750.SZ) and BYD (002594.SZ), about the supply of batteries for its planned electric vehicle, four people with knowledge of the matter said. The discussions are subject to change and it is not clear if agreements with either CATL or BYD will be reached, said the people, who declined to be named as the discussions are private." according to a Reuters Report: "Apple has made building manufacturing facilities in the United States a condition for potential battery suppliers, said two of the sources. A senior official in U.S. President Joe Biden's administration confirmed that condition on Tuesday."

PORSCHE'S MACAN EV WILL BEST THE TAYCAN FOR BATTERY RANGE WHEN IT ARRIVES 2023
"Porsche electric-powertrain version of its best-selling SUV, the Macan, will promise better battery range than the current Taycan when it hits the market in 2023. A new platform called the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) will underpin the EV, which will be sold alongside the regular gasoline-powered Macan." according to driving.ca: "According to the brand, the vehicle will have “significantly more” range than the Taycan, and even borrow some technology from it. “The 800-volt architecture is taken from the Taycan and we’ll bring this to the PPE platform for the Macan,” Steiner said. While the Taycan has been criticized for its relatively low 227-mile (365-km) EPA-rated battery range, the actual mileage on the road regularly exceeds that."

MER UK PARTNERS WITH SHELL’S NEWMOTION
Mer, a new entrant to the British EV charging market and owned by Statkraft, announced a roaming partnership with NewMotion, a Shell group company. The agreement opens Mer’s 160 charging points to NewMotion clients and Shell Recharge users in the UK." writes electrive: "Mer, part of Norwegian energy giant Statkraft, only launched into the UK market in late April this year, initially as Gronn Kontakt UK. The company says it focuses on getting charging stations into businesses, organisations, key retail locations and into areas managed by local authorities where there will be high usage.   One of the recent partnerships in the UK included the British charge point operator Osprey Charging, formerly known as Engenie. NewMotion has been on a steep expansion course ever since they were acquired by Shell in 2017. They now offer a variety of charging solutions and partner for roaming agreements. Cooperations from beyond the UK border such include Vattenfall, who is using the company to help gain a foothold on the island."

RAC PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR THE FIRST ELECTRIC VEHICLE RALLY TO TAKE PLACE IN ENGLAND
"The RAC has agreed a deal to support the first EV rally to take place in England. Featuring a wide range of EVs from factory models to solar-powered and several self-builds, The London to Brighton EV Rally (L2BEVR) will start on the banks of the River Thames and cover over 58 miles to finish at Madeira Drive on Brighton seafront on Sunday 18 July." says forecourtrader.co.uk: "The RAC has teamed up with the year’s event as the official breakdown and recovery partner with its patrols on hand to rescue any of competitor who runs into difficulty."

They say: "Any competitor unfortunate enough to go ‘flat’ will be able to benefit from our EV Boost technology which provides an emergency charge sufficient to get drivers home or to the nearest charge point. Our vans are also equipped with our unique All Wheels Up recovery system which enables patrols to tow EVs with all four wheels off the ground, and saves time waiting for a separate recovery vehicle. It’s like having a flatbed in the back of our vans.”

THIRD OF UK BUSINESSES WOULD CONSIDER INSTALLING CHARGERS FOR EMPLOYEES
"One third of firms would think about putting charging points in employees’ homes to support the use of electric vehicles, according to new research. One in five claim the increase of home working has influenced their plans. Upfront costs and operational challenges remain a barrier to widespread adoption of home charging" says thisismoney: "The news comes after it was revealed UK businesses plan to invest £15.8billion in the electrification of their fleets over the next year - a 50 per cent uplift on their spending during the previous 12 months. With the Government's ban on internal combustion engine vehicles less than a decade away, it all suggests that more firms are prepared to act now rather than risk delaying their own EV rollout."

TESLA IS NO LONGER THE MOST POPULAR ELECTRIC CAR BRAND IN NL
"Tesla is no longer the most sold electric car in the Netherlands as new tax rules and wider choice impact its place in the rankings, the Financieele Dagblad said on Tuesday. In the first five months of this year, the Skoda Enyaq has built up market share of 11.8%, more than double that of Tesla, which had 18% of the Dutch market last year." according to dutchnews.nl: "One reason for the downturn in the Tesla’s popularity is changes in the tax rules for company cars. The maximum catalogue price to be eligible for a tax cut has been reduced from €45,000 to €40,000, and the cheapest Tesla is now around €49,000, the FD pointed out. Company car drivers with an electric vehicle which cost more than €40,000 have to add 22% of that to their annual income for tax purposes. Below €40,000, the figure is 12%."

RESEARCH REVEALS EV CHARGING PRACTICES TO HELP REDUCE BATTERY AGEING
"New research has highlighted how temperature and state of charge (SoC) impacts the degradation of lithium-ion (li-ion) batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs). The research by Altelium, an EV battery warranty provider, investigated calendar degradation of li-ion batteries - which is caused by chemical deterioration of batteries when they are not in use, especially when parked." says fleetnews: "The data found the ideal conditions for improving overall battery life is charging the battery once it hits the 10% level and recharge to 80%, instead of allowing the battery to drain to empty or zero and recharging to 100%. The research also highlighted that high-level SoC between 70-80% as the ‘worst’ position in which a car should be left parked at, as it could cause greater calendar ageing. EV batteries stored at 70-80% could lose up to four to eight per cent of capacity to hold charge at the end of one year, when compared to the ‘best condition’ observed - when the battery is completely discharged, the research found."
