Phto: "Terror In Formosa", a news article from The Daily News of Perth, reported the status in March 1947.

In 1947, the invading forces from Mainland under Chiang Kai-shek, funder of the Kuo-min-tang (KMT) observed a peaceful demonstration and mowed down Taiwanese civilians.  Conservative estimates of the number murdered were 5,000.   Needless to say, this led to a semi-permanent antipathy by Taiwanese of the Chinese invaders—which, to this day, the Chinese who arrived with Chiang and their children and grandchildren believe does not exist.

Today's KMT is, regrettably, substantially in alliance with Beijing.
