In The Longest battle Emma Martins chats with people who have gone through a similar life changing situation to her own when Emma caught a virus in 2013 which completely changed her life for ever. 

The virus that Emma caught in Vietnam caused a brain aneurysm which in turn has severely affected Emma’s eyesight.

This week Emma is chatting with Kiko Matthews who in 2018 became the World Record holder for the fastest woman to row solo across the Atlantic.

In 2009 Kiko was diagnosed with Cushings disease, a condition caused by having too much cortisol in your body usually resulting from a growth or brain tumour, although this did not stop Kiko taking on the challenge of rowing across the Atlantic. 

In The Longest Battle with Kiko Matthews we will find out more about Cushings disease, where Kiko’s love of adventure had come from, when did Kiko decide to get into rowing, and why the challenge of rowing solo across the Atlantic.
