Susan J Walklate: Radical Home Education

Season 2, Episode 21,   Aug 04, 2021, 11:01 PM

In this episode of Conversations with Authors I meet Susan J Walklate. Susan home educated her son, Simon, and writes about her experience, and the experiences of four other home-educating families, in her book Radical Home Education. We talk about how writing about life experiences can be cathartic, how to choose the trim size of your book and the effects of the pandemic on home education.

Welcome to Conversations with Authors, where I – Alison Thompson, AKA The Proof Fairy – meet amazing authors and find out what inspires them to write and what advice they would offer other aspiring authors.

My guest today is Susan J Walklate. Susan home educated her son, Simon, and writes about her experience, and the experiences of four other home-educating families in her book Radical Home Education: Discover Home Education Through the True Accounts of Five Families. She’s also creating a course to offer advice and support to families who are curious about or new to home educating.

In our conversation we talk about how writing about challenging life experiences can be cathartic and how Susan went about choosing the trim size for her book. She also gives me some insight into how the pandemic has affected home education.
