This week’s podcast guest is Rashpal Bhatti, VP, Maritime and Supply Chain Excellence at the Anglo-Australian multinational mining, metals and petroleum company, BHP. Recently announced as a director at the Maritime Decarbonisation Centre in Singapore, where BHP is one of the founding members, Rashpal discusses how BHP is already approaching the challenge of reducing the carbon impact of transporting its products and how he thinks shipping’s decarbonisation journey may play out in the future

BHP is a world-leading resources company with global operations and is of one of the biggest iron ore miners and exporters in Australia, producing over 250 million tons from its six iron ore sites in the year to June 2021. 

Rashpal joined BHP in 2002 and has held various senior positions across Marketing, Technology and Procurement and has been based in Europe, the US, India and most recently, Singapore. 

He was appointed Vice President, Maritime & Supply Chain Excellence at BHP in August 2015. He is accountable for BHP’s marine freight requirements which in aggregate makes the company one of the largest bulk charterers in the world. 

Prior to his arrival at BHP, Rashpal worked at Schlumberger and Enron.  He graduated with an honours degree in Accountancy and Finance in London

Rashpal is the chairman on the RightShip board and is a key proponent of raising performance and safety standard in the bulk marine industry.
