Photo: .Nacirema ("American" spelled backward) Demolition Company, based in New Jersey, immediately sent enormous demo equipment through the Holland Tunnel to the pile to start clearing the site. Volunteers poured into lower Manhattan from all over the United States.  No one asked them to come; they just dropped everything and raced to help their compatriots who were in trouble.
