Daily Dose @ 5: MOH approves Pfizer as third COVID-19 vaccine booster, Pfizer seeks US nod for COVID vaccine use in younger kids

AMONG the headlines for Friday, October 8, 2021, the Ministry of Health earlier today announced it’s conditional approval for the Comirnaty vaccine to be used as a booster shot, at least six months after the second dose for those aged 18 and above.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this is the first Covid-19 vaccine approved as a booster dose in the country.
He said the decision was made during the 365th Drug Control Authority meeting today.
Also, Pfizer and BioNTech SE submitted initial trial data for their COVID-19 vaccine in 5-11 year olds.
The drugmakers said they would make a formal request to U.S. regulators for emergency use in the coming weeks.
