Photo: (Screen grab)  Nouriel Roubini was almost the only economist who had the fortitude to say, as the day approached, that the  moment of 1999 turning into 2000 might possibly yield a global chaos of computer software unprepared for the shift.  He, and the rest of us, were relieved to see that that didn't occur; but It was Roubini who rightly brought the possibility to our attention. Manus Cranny is a Bloomberg star.

In economics, stagflation or recession-inflation is a situation in which the inflation rate is high, the economic growth rate slows, and unemployment remains steadily high. It presents a dilemma for economic policy, since actions intended to lower inflation may exacerbate unemployment.
