Dream of journey

"I really missed even the shortest journeys during recent lockdowns. Before the latest, introduced in Poland in October 2021, I travelled to Łódź, a city where you can hear trams everywhere. They are quite old and old-fashioned. Looking at them I realised they resemble old trains moving slowly on peripheral railway lines. When I was a child, I used to dream of travelling by train, although – or because – in a small city in Eastern Poland where I was brought up train connections were suspended for many years.
"And during long months of lockdown my hearing changed a bit – I’ve been suffering from tinnitus. Sometimes I fell like I hear my dreams in which the sounds you listen to are distorted, sharpened or enhanced.
When I find out a mother calling her son and a suitcase being dragged on the pavement in the original source sound from Siena, all my yearning was woken up. Including a journey to Siena."
