Navigation fees for domestic airlines operating out of Juba international airport reduced

Navigation fees for domestic airlines operating out of Juba international airport have been reduced. Navpass, the international company contracted by government to manage the national airspace has brought the cost down from between $7 and $1 a seat, to a flat rate of 25 dollars per leg, after concerns from airlines that the fees for the small carriers were too high. NavPass Chief Executive Officer, Thomas Perkins says the company is giving the airlines special consideration to avoid passing the cost to passengers and ultimately hurting the economy. He says international carriers will still be expected to pay the original fees.  

NavPass was contracted by the government in March this year, to claim ownership of its sovereign airspace and collect overflight fees for the first time. The company is also expected to use its expertise on the ground to train authorities and airport staff to improve the safety of its air infrastructure.
