Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 24th October. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.

Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.

QUESTON OF THE WEEK

When buying a used electric car, how do you feel about servicing? Do you want the previous person to have been back to a dealer every year? Do you care? Some manufacturers like Tesla don’t even have a service schedule so how do you feel about buying a used EV and it’s service history, or lack of.

ADRIAN BOND
Even without the worry of keeping clattering oily bits of an internal combustion engine working in lose harmony, I would still expect to see regular annual servicing for an EV I was going to buy for 2 main reasons:

Too keep any warranty alive, as even EVs have expensive bits you wouldn’t want to be out of pocket for.  And,

Safety.  EVs and ICE Vehicles may get moving in different ways, but they both depend on a braking system to save your, your family’s and other family’s lives.  The U.K. annual MOT safety checks only go so far, and a regular service will help ensure these systems are working at their best.  Should the servicing have be done my a main dealer?  No longer fussed after 25 years of driving, especially as I’ve found good independents often provide a better personal and mechanical service.

ED CORTEEN
I have bought two used Leafs and both came from dealers with full service history, I would be very reluctant to consider any car without this as it at least indicates that the previous owner looked after their car and hopefully did not trash the battery.

RAJEEV NARAYAN
I think it depends on the car and mileage, for example, if I was looking at a Nissan Leaf, or even a Chevy Bolt with over 100K miles, prior servicing might be important to me. Any used EV with 50 K miles or less, prior servicing would be less important to me.

ROD DANDY
I would prefer to have service records when buying any used vehicle, may have been in an accident, were and recalls do it etc…

ETHAN MURRAY
Martyn don't forget about things like the cabin air filters. Sure these are things we can all do ourselves but sometimes getting a professional, even if not a main dealer, is the best thing to ensure you car is running smoothly.

JAY FROM MANCHESTER
As a former mechanic, whilst the quality of both cars and the consumables such as oil get better, I would always have safety critical systems checked by a qualified dealer or garage. They can often spot something before it fails. The brake fluid test is something many people forget about.

ROXANNE GAILA
Here in Florida it gets pretty warm if the AC isn't working. I know Tesla don't have a service schedule per se, but all air conditioning will need service at some point.

MERV THE SWERVE
What about the brakes rotors and pads?  I have heard that some EVs use them so little they can get rusty and seize up?

ALEX LINDSAY
Having gone through a few sets of tyres over the years because of misalignment rather than wear, the weight of EVs makes both tire pressure and wheel alignment very important.

QUENTIN / CANADA
I recently had my eGolf serviced and would like to know what exactly I just paid for. Something I think would add a lot of value would a print out, or some sort of analysis, on all the various factors in the battery. Even if not a blow-by-blow account of each cell, I'd like to know the condition of the pack.

PJ IN SPAIN
Anyone else have their 12 v battery die on them? Yep people get it checked.

NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM

How many of the podcast listeners have changed their electricity tariff after buying an electric vehicle? And how many of your regularly change electricity to get the best deal, if that’s possible where you live? How much interest do you take in your electricity supply?

Email me your thoughts and I’ll read them out on Sunday – hello@evnewsdaily.com

It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.
