Episode 147: Goosebumps (1992)

Oct 27, 2021, 07:00 AM

Listeners beware... you're in for a - VERY GOOD TIME. Halloween week is alas here, and we're taking you back to the 90s with the second most popular book series of ALL TIME and the main reason we're all afraid of slickly dressed dummies: R.L. Stine's GOOSEBUMPS.

We look at the beginning of R.L Stine from his time in Oklahoma writing joke books to his breakthrough success with books like Fear Street and work on shows like Nickelodeon. But the real meat and potatoes of the episode is spent in the mid-90s, where we chronicle the rise and near fall of Scholastic as they took over book fairs everywhere, and how a little competition from Animorphs almost brought it all down!

References from our favorite past time are front and center in this holiday treat, so check it out today... and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
