It's a Colorism Thang!
It's Series 10 Episode 3
hey guys, so on today's show, we talk about why black people feel they have to say "I'm mixed with x, y, and z" to feel interesting. As you will hear, this is a fascinating construct because growing up, and I saw that a lot; I had a distinct memory of one such case when I was in 10th grade, we played a game called two truths and a lie, to get to know each other, one person stood up and said their two truths and a lie. The teacher called their lie as being them, saying, "I'm Dominican Republic," and the teacher said he caught that as a lie because people who are Dominican don't say they are "Dominican republic"; they say they are Dominican. I said that to say later on in our school years, I overheard this same person say, "I'm Dominican." Well, at least they learned from their mistake. I find it disheartening that we can't just BE BLACK and feel interesting as BLACK people. We further discuss does the belief that lighter skin is prettier perpetuates the colorism reality? Along with racism, we have colorism, which, if you dissect it into its most minute existence, is a form of racism.

Webster's defines racism as:
Definition of racism
  1. : a belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
    1. also: behavior or attitudes that reflect and foster this belief: racial discrimination or prejudice
  2.  the systemic oppression of a racial group to the social, economic, and political advantage of another specifically: WHITE SUPREMACY
    1. : a political or social system founded on racism and designed to execute its principles
Webster's further defines colorism as:
1. prejudice or discrimination, especially within a racial or ethnic group favoring people with lighter skin over those with darker skin

As you can see, colorism IS racism; we just call it colorism, so it doesn't sound so bad; what do you guys think?
