Dame Sarah Storey "A problem shared, is a problem halved"

Season 3, Episode 7,   Dec 13, 2021, 08:30 AM

In today's episode, I head to East London to the epicentre of what was once the Olympic Village during London 2012, to link up with a Paralympic cyclist who quite literally gives us a guided tour throughout our 1 Mile stroll.

Since securing her 17th Paralympic Gold Medal during Tokyo 2020, my latest Monday Miler has become Great Britain's most successful Paralympic athlete of all time, the iconic Dame Sarah Storey. Her tally, sitting at 8 Olympics, consists of 17 Gold medals, 8 Silver and 3 Bronze is a phenomenal feat, and today we have a very special episode to mark the announcement that Dame Sarah is an official nominee for BBC Sports Personality of the Year. We delve into conversation around how the narrative and visibility of Para Sport can be raised, and how winning BBC Sports Personality of the Year would be a first ever for a Para athlete. So you know what to do, tune into BBC Sports Personality on the 19th December to GET YOUR VOTE IN!

During our stroll we chat about the highs (of which there were many), and the lows of Sarah's career, and we have an honest conversation around the subject of bullying and how her strength of character saw her go on to be the true pioneer that Sarah is today.

Aimee will be probing for answers from the full spectrum of routines; the early birds who have finely tuned Monday mornings, to the late risers who struggle to get up before 11am. How do elite athletes find the motivation to kick start their week come rain or shine? How do celebrities deliver no matter what the time of day? What knowledge can they pass on?

Each episode drops on a Monday morning and plays out in real time. Aimee will meet each of her guests for a walk and a chat and over the course of the mile she will find out how they cope on a Monday morning - their idiosyncrasies, breakfast routines, alarm noises - and how, when they need to, find the motivation to kick-on through the week.

Dropping every Monday as a bitesize piece of content and weekly dose of motivation - right when you need it - sharing some of Britain's greatest athletes’ secrets on self-motivation, candid thoughts on what they struggle with and a sideways look at some of their more unusual morning habits.
