UJOSS: Harassment of the media is affecting government’s communication to its citizens

The media space in South Sudan has continued to shrink due to numerous challenges that constantly threaten press freedom. Just a few days ago, authorities closed Singaita FM, a community radio station based in Kapoeta, Eastern Equatoria State, following a misunderstanding over slotting of government officials on a talk show. A few months ago, Radio Jonglei in Bor was shut down on suspicion of broadcasting inciting content but re-opened later.

These happenings have not gone unnoticed by the Union of Journalists of South Sudan, UJOSS. Miraya breakfast this morning featured UJOSS president Oyet Patrick, who voiced out several concerns.
