Aikido and T`ai Chi Ch`uan are the pre-eminent soft martial art forms. Each is both shockingly efficient as a fighting art and remarkably healthy for the entire body. DFinding a genuine teacher can be difficult, and studying with poor training is self-defeating. But it's worth a careful search.
