Drive My Car is the only international/foreign language film to be nominated for Best Picture this year and for a good reason. Hamaguchi's three-hour long film is a steady and consistently paced story about grief and trauma and the toll it can take. We love when a filmmaker lets the setting, and the actors do the work with simple wide shots and intimate close ups.
